New regime tax slabs (FY 2025-26)
₹0–4L: nil · ₹4–8L: 5% · ₹8–12L: 10% · ₹12–16L: 15% · ₹16–20L: 20% · ₹20–24L: 25% · above ₹24L: 30%. A Section 87A rebate makes tax zero for taxable income up to ₹12 lakh, and salaried taxpayers get a ₹75,000 standard deduction.
Old regime tax slabs (below 60)
₹0–2.5L: nil · ₹2.5–5L: 5% · ₹5–10L: 20% · above ₹10L: 30%. The old regime lets you claim deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, home-loan interest and more) plus a ₹50,000 standard deduction, with an 87A rebate up to ₹5 lakh taxable income.
Which regime is better?
The new regime usually wins if you have few deductions, thanks to the higher rebate. The old regime can be better if you claim large deductions (heavy 80C, home-loan interest, HRA). Try both here and compare the total tax.
